To be honest, we sometimes crave a nice rain day. What better way to snuggle up and have an excuse to just stay indoors all day. You can stay in your jammies, catch a good movie or read a book, eat comfort foods guilt free! But, what happens when that day of rain turns into 3 days…or TEN?? Weeelllll, we at the Peak having been living the rain life for MANY days now. Our sunglasses are collecting dust and the ABC store cashier knows us by name. Let’s take a little journey into those cozy beginning rainy days to the losing your #$%& rainy days. Cheers!
Rainy Days: The Cozy
A few days of rain are sometimes just what we need. Outdoor kids activities may be cancelled freeing up nights that are usually busy. While it’s a little early to break out the hot cocoa we like a nice soothing tea. Harney & Sons Fine Teas will brew the perfect cup, particularly the Hot Cinnamon Spice. If you like cinnamon, you will love this tea! It tastes like you are drinking a candy fireball! It will warm you up and satisfy the urge for sweets at the same time! If you are not a a fan of cinnamon, there are plenty of other flavors to choose from – all deliciously cozy! And what is even better, Harney & Sons has been spotted at Target! So while you are there shopping for all of your other rain day must haves, make sure to pick up some of this tea. You will be so glad that you did!
We also think a nice soup could be in store and even better if it can simmer in the crockpot all day and fill your home with delicious smells! Remember it is still early in our rain journey and you are loving all this quality family time:) Your family is going to appreciate this Olive Garden favorite…Zuppa Toscana. You wouldn’t want to get off the couch to actually go to Olive Garden so THIS RECIPE from Retro Modern Mom will keep you dry and in your slippers.
While your delicious soup is simmering in the crockpot spend SOME MORE quality time with your SWEET littles baking cookies!! I mean really. How could this not get any better. The soft hum of rain….and now your house smells like Olive Garden and the Keebler Elves treehouse.

As your cuties drift off to sleep you decide to do some online shopping and purchase these A-mazing Hunter boots for the NEXT time it rains. You already have the practical colors so the Tiffany Blue is the obvious next choice.
You check the weather app on your phone as you are getting into bed and see it’s going to rain for the next several days. You are not worried since today was so nice and you won’t have to wait to wear your new rain boots. Life is SO good.
Rainy Days: The CRAZY
It’s now the MILLIONTH day of rain…really not, but everyday past the second has lasted an eterenity and if you don’t see the sun soon you are uprooting your family to the Equator. You have gained 12 pounds from all the cookies you’ve eaten and are now eating ramen noodles since you can’t bear getting everyone and all their RAIN GEAR in the car one more time to go grocery shopping. (The only exception to this rule is trips to the grocery store to buy wine and wear your boots…those are still AWESOME). Here are a few things that just might get you through….
Essential oils…specifically grapefruit, lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus may help those rainy day blues! We love this diffuser but you may want to try a few drops in a nice hot bath, too! If the kiddos are bouncing off the walls some lavender essential oil will help to keep some calm in the house, too (not that we have ever used this trick before)!
Exercise! You can brave the rain and run outside by trying SOME of these tips or head to the gym. Trish has spent a lot of time at her gym these last two weeks!
More online shopping always makes us happy! You may need a new umbrella to go with your rain boots and This one from Kate Spade are OUR THOUGHTS EXACTLY! While you are at it throw in some of this Amazing Frizz Reducing Shampoo by Pureology. Unless this is a good look for you we highly recommend it.
And of course the #1 rain survival tip is this…..
