As I’m sitting here writing this post…there are dirty dishes in the sink, groceries that still need to be put away, laundry that needs to be done, and a daughter that is teary eyed from a sore wrist trying to stick her back hand spring for Friday’s cheer competition. Not to mention all the Thanksgiving prep that lies ahead for tomorrow. Oh, and did I mention that I never had time to shower today! Some days its just hard to be thankful…
So I just decided I am going to be thankful for things “AS IS.” Yes that’s right…coming from an almost perfectionist like me who loves to make things just so and goes to a lot of trouble to get things right. Today I am thankful for each and every one of my family members who will be in our home (and many who we will miss) and I am thankful for them just the way they are…with all their flaws (me included), but more importantly all their love and what each one of them brings to my life. I am going to take the advice from my wise and loving Grandmother and passed down to me from my amazing Mother…
- Be thankful for the dishes in the sink and groceries that need to be put away – because it means everyone has had plenty to eat.
- Be thankful for laundry that needs to be done – because it means we have more than enough to wear.
- Be thankful for a teary eyed daughter – because it means she is healthy, capable and strong.
- Be thankful because even though I didn’t get a shower today – I know I will get time, and when I do…I will have hot running water.
I am grateful for my strong body that gets me out of bed each morning and my legs that carry me out into the world. I am thankful for my arms that love and nurture those around me, and for my hands that type my posts here for you to read. I am thankful for my shoulders where my children can stand to reach higher than they could on their own. I am thankful for my heart that allows me to love unconditionally and my eyes that allow me to see the best in others.
Last, but certainly not least…I am thankful for the three amazing women I get the privilege of writing this blog with each week. They make me laugh, they lift me up, they cheer me on…and love me “AS IS.”
Enjoy counting your many blessings today just “AS THEY ARE” because we really do have so much to be thankful for!
