Update 12/22: Congrats to Amanda Freedman, our giveaway winner. We will be contacting you by e-mail to get you your book!!
Hey everyone, this is Trish! It’s no secret we love our town here at Pretty in the Peak and love to shop, eat and play local. You may also notice we have SIX shopping days left until Christmas. This fact has snuck up on me this year and I think it’s because our unseasonably warm temperatures have thrown me off. Now, instead of not knowing exactly what day we are on I have to remember which season and month we are in! If you are in the same boat stick around this week as we highlight local businesses for last minute gifts.
Why shop local?? My neighbor Jennifer Martin is the Executive Director of Shop Local Raleigh and is passionate about local businesses. This is what she has to say about shopping local.
Shopping local benefits everyone- it keeps more of your hard earned money in your community. Money for schools, better roads, parks and more jobs. Keep your money where it matters and shop local in your community.
We couldn’t agree more! One of our biggest goals of this blog is to show off our amazing town and surrounding cities.
I’m so excited to tell you about our first local gem Karen Campbell. Karen is an artist and owns a private home studio right here in Apex. Karen does mixed-media art. Now I really had no idea what that meant so I asked Karen. Here is what she said…
Mixed Media Art is when many different materials (or mediums) are used in the same piece. For example… An acrylic painting uses just acrylics. A mixed media painting may use acrylics, watercolors, markers, glue and paper all in the same piece! So it is quite literally mixing together different mediums in the same work of art.
I love this and now it makes so much sense! I’ve seen her work in so many forms before…her faces and abstracts are amazing….and now I know why I see all the texture and details. And how fun to do art in that way! And that is what makes Cool Mama Crafts such a great place. Not only can you purchase amazing artwork from Karen….check out her Etsy Shop for original coasters, notecards, prints, jewelry and tshirts, but you can also have a whole art experience with Karen and that is a treat! Check out Cool Mama Crafts for Karen’s Ladies Night Out or Kid’s Birthday parties. I’ve attended a Ladies Night where we did Zentangle. It was so much fun! Wine, friends and art really pair well together especially when you have Karen making you feel awesome. I really think she feels that way too…I don’t know if this generalization is true for all artists, but I feel like Karen does see the beauty in our creations (where we see the flaws) because they are a true expression of us. She is in her element sharing her gift with others. This is also why she is amazing with kids too! I know we all need birthday party ideas and how about a party where this work of art is the party favor!
Check out Cool Mama Crafts for more information and to schedule your own events.
NOW for the best part of this post. Karen has a new book, How to Draw Fun Fab Faces: An Interactive Step-by-Step Guide To Drawing Fun Female Faces.
